How to analyze word frequency in your text?

This word frequency analyzer helps you understand the distribution of words in any text. Here's how to use it:

  • Paste or type your text directly into the input area above. You can paste entire articles, essays, blog posts, or any block of text.
  • The analyzer automatically counts every word and displays results sorted by frequency — most common words first.
  • Review the word frequency table showing each unique word and its count. Use the filter to focus on words longer than a certain length.
  • Copy individual words or download the full frequency report as CSV for further analysis.

How to interpret the results?

Understanding word frequency helps with content optimization and writing improvement:

  • High-frequency words may indicate repetition — consider using synonyms to improve variety.
  • For SEO, check if your target keywords appear with sufficient frequency throughout the content.
  • Academic writers can verify they're not overusing filler words like 'the', 'and', 'is'.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does word frequency analysis tell me?

Word frequency analysis shows how often each unique word appears in your text. This helps identify repetitive language, optimize keyword usage for SEO, ensure vocabulary diversity, and understand the overall composition of your writing.

Does the tool ignore common words like 'the', 'a', 'is'?

By default, the tool shows all words including common ones (stop words). However, you can use the minimum word length filter to exclude short common words. For example, setting minimum length to 3 will hide 'the', 'a', 'is', 'and', etc.

Is the word counting case-sensitive?

No. The analyzer treats uppercase and lowercase versions of the same word as identical. 'The' and 'the' are counted together. This gives you a more accurate picture of actual word usage.

How are hyphenated words handled?

Hyphenated words are treated as separate words split by the hyphen. For example, 'state-of-the-art' becomes four words: 'state', 'of', 'the', and 'art'. Punctuation is stripped before counting.

Can I export the results?

Yes! You can copy individual words or download the complete frequency analysis as a CSV file, which you can open in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet application.
